MasjidLink Privacy Policy
MasjidLink ("we," "us") is operated by Masjidlink Corp., based in Ontario, Canada. This policy explains what information the MasjidLink app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We collect the minimum needed to run the app, we do not sell your information, and we do not show advertising.
Information we collect
- Account information. Creating an account is optional — the app works anonymously. If you create one, we collect your email address for sign-in and account recovery.
- Location. With your permission, the app uses your device location to calculate prayer times and Qibla direction (this happens on your device) and to find mosques near you. Your timezone is stored with your profile so weekly summaries are generated at the right local time.
- Prayer tracking data. If you use the prayer tracker, your entries are stored with your account (or anonymous session) so they sync and so weekly summaries can be generated for you.
- Notification token. If you enable notifications while signed in, we store a push notification token for your device so we can deliver your weekly summary.
- Usage analytics. We collect basic app-usage events and device identifiers to understand how the app is used and to fix problems. Analytics are not used for advertising.
How we use information
We use the information above to provide the app's features: showing accurate prayer times, finding nearby mosques, delivering the notifications you have enabled, syncing your prayer tracking, generating your weekly summary, and improving reliability. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Service providers
The app relies on a small number of service providers that process data on our behalf:
- Supabase — database and authentication hosting (accounts, prayer tracking, profiles, notification tokens).
- PostHog — usage analytics.
- Expo, Apple Push Notification service, and Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivery of push notifications.
- OpenStreetMap services (Overpass, Nominatim) — when you search for nearby mosques, approximate coordinates are sent to these services to return results. Mosque listings come from public map data.
Donation campaigns shown in the app may link to external pages operated by mosques or their payment providers. We do not process or store payment information.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings), which removes your account and associated data from our systems. If you use the app anonymously, your data is tied to that anonymous session on your device.
Your choices
- Location, notification, and calendar permissions can be granted or revoked at any time in your device settings; the app remains usable with reduced functionality.
- Notifications, including weekly summaries, can be turned off in the app's settings.
- You may use the app without creating an account.
Your rights
We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). You may request access to or correction of your personal information, or ask questions about our practices, by contacting us at the address below. If you use the app outside Canada, your information is processed by the providers listed above, which may store data outside your country.
Children
MasjidLink is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with access controls that restrict each account to its own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect so there is less to protect.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update this page and revise the effective date above.
